The Centre of Excellence Hair and Make-up competition
On the 25th of October, the COE came together in a fundraising effort for a very worthwhile cause- The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) Pink Ribbon Brunch.
On their website, the NBCF states, 9 Australians a day die from the disease.
In the last 10 years, breast cancer diagnosis have increased by 33%.
Since the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) started funding in 1994, the five-year survival rates have improved from 76% to 92%.
The aim of the foundation…simple– Zero Deaths from Breast Cancer.
So it was a definitive yes, when our hair student, Laura, whose mum, Gayle, passed from breast cancer two years ago, asked if we could be involved this year,
The COE staff and students embraced the importance of this day with a whole lot of pink and a whole lot of food!
Laura spoke on the importance of those checks and the impact breast cancer has on a family and Australia.
We launched a Pamper Hamper Raffle and a ‘Thinking of You’ Door to write the name on a pink heart for all those we know who have been touched by breast cancer.
Apart from the profusion of pink clothing, streamers and balloons and lots of treats to eat, the day opened up some very important conversations on a sensitive subject and it was a pleasure to raise some well needed funds for this special cause.
*The NBCF rely solely on the fundraising efforts of private groups and individuals and do not have any government assistance.

This year’s All-Campus Competition was a jaw dropper!Our students went above and beyond and surprised their trainer, and I think, even themselves.
From Medusa, with hand crafted snake heads and bodies constructed from fly wire, to a gorgeous coupling by one of the beauty students twins as models and being morphed into Forest Imps-our COE 2017 entries took our breath away with their collective effort.And here our 6 category winners but honestly the competition was fierce and the staff and trainers are so proud of every student’s contribution.
Congratulations to all our winners!
In July of 2015 The Centre of Excellence conducted an in-school competition. The theme was ‘a Touch of Renaissance’ and the students could interpret this in whatever form they wanted.
So, with much preparation and a whole lot of energy- the day involved both Beauty and Hairdressing students to merge into small groups and showcase their project on a model.
And what a wonderful day it was. Our winners were decided by our DeLorenzo judge and what tough choices she had to pick from.
In First Place with a traditional Renaissance feel to their overall finished model was Team 12. Well done girls!
The Centre of Excellence held their first hair and make- up competition on the 31st of October 2013.
Initially students where asked to express their interest in competing in the competition. The students where then paired up in teams of two, by the competition host, to make a dynamic duo.
The students were required to work together over a 3 week period to come up with a theme and hair and makeup design.
The four teams of 2 worked over the 3 weeks to design and practice their style/theme of their choice to their model.
When the 31st of October came around, nerves high and the excitement was growing, the teams where given 3 hours to make there models up and present them to the judges.
The judges for the 2013 competition where;
- Kim Van Beveren -A Director of The Centre of Excellence and
- Jonathan Watson -A Harvey -A Agent for DE Lorenzo,
Both Johnathan and Kim where given a set of criteria to judge all teams by. The final score was given out of 80.
There were 5 sets of criteria each team had to complete;

Out of the four teams, there were 2 outstanding.

Team 2 -A Deana Lawn (Hair) and Sophie Chandler (Make-up)
The Lucky winners received a Hair Care hamper from De Lorenzo each and a certificate of Achievement award which was presented by Dr John Van Beveren -A CEO The Centre of Excellence.
We were lucky enough to have Oxygen College attended our completion and do a photo shoot for us. Each team is also presented with photos for their portfolio.
