General English program / ELICOS Course also called the Essential English Course (Elementary to Advanced) is a purpose-built program that engages students in the real-world practice of General and Intensive English in class as well as through a variety of supportive and authentic experiences including excursions, guest speakers, expert presentations, local community involvement and much more.

Students become a part of Australian life in meaningful ways by developing their reading, writing, listening & speaking and learn English Language Skills. This specially designed Improve your English course focuses on practice & interaction and accomplishes social, professional and study goals as well.

Generally Speaking, Essential / General English course students greatly develop their English Language skills to survive and thrive in the English speaking world, socially as well as in study and work situations. They achieve this through improving their reading and writing of emails, letters, short stories, articles and more as well as by developing their listening and speaking about personal information & experiences, advice, opinions & predictions, asking for and giving clarification, arguing, agreeing & disagreeing. There are no education requirements to enter this course

All new students will complete an English Language Placement Test on their first day and will be placed at their appropriate level. The Centre of Excellence offers ELICOS in Adelaide and will be able to place students in a class where they can learn best

Assessment Methods

Weekly assessments are designed to allow students to practise their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills while becoming the basis for ongoing personalised and specific training and feedback from teachers. Each week’s grammar is also assessed to award students with certification that acknowledges their improvement and overall English level by completion of their course.
